Inflatable Fun Run gets PE on the go
THRILLS and spills were the order of the day at the inaugural Inflatable Fun Run held at DF Malherbe High School yesterday.
The event, presented by Big O Events Management in partnership with K&W Events and Amusements, saw about 1 500 people brave the chilly Port Elizabeth weather in exchange for a fun-filled family day.
Participants had to negotiate 13 inflatables. The competitors were grouped for the first obstacle where they went through a natural inflatable before passing through the foam area and on to a tyre maze.
From there, they faced giant inflatables which they had to climb and slide their way through, in order to eventually reach the finish line.
Owner of Big O Sports, which also forms part of Big O Event Management, Christopher O’Linsky, was pleased with the support.
“For the first one I am happy with the turnout, taking in consideration that it’s winter. It’s good to see that people in PE are willing to support different funky events even in the cold weather,” he said.
O’Linsky said the purpose of the fun run was to introduce something new to PE’s audience.
“People seem to be interested in it but there are few changes that we will do for next year, like making the biggest spectator area on the side of the field.
“Something that we would like to change also is to have the event in summer.”
Sally Blinman, 50, said she was definitely coming back to next year’s event.
“I had an absolute ball. It was great, I felt like a kid again,” she said. “The course was fun. I like it. I didn’t expect to have as much fun as I have had today.
Meanwhile, siblings Nathan and Nina Domoney, aged five and seven, said they had both enjoyed the large inflatable slide.
“I had so much fun today. I enjoyed the part most where you go through the slide which is the deepest,” Nathan said.
