Call for two deputies to boost party

- Bongani Mthethwa

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal wants an amendment to the party’s constitution to accommodate the creation of two deputy secretaries-general in a bid to strengthen Luthuli House.

It was one of the proposals adopted at the ANC’s three-day provincial general council (PGC) at the University of Zululand and it will be presented at the party’s national policy conference‚ starting on Friday.

Provincial chairman Sihle Zikalala said one of the deputies would be responsible for monitoring‚ evaluation and research and the other for ANC enhancement and campaigns.

Zikalala said the party in the province had also committed itself to “rise above parochial provincial interests if any of them compromises the unity of the ANC”.

The PGC was unanimous that there could be no progress without a strong and united ANC, he said.

The KwaZulu-Natal ANC will also push for the acceleration of radical economic transformation.

Zikalala said an economic warfare had been unleashed with the credit ratings downgrades‚ not on the soundness of economic policies‚ but on political considerations after the president had reshuffled the cabinet.

Those resisting radical transformation needed to be confronted and uprooted, he said. – TimesLIVE
