- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@timesmedia.co.za

ALTHOUGH the Mofa Premier League has not reached the halfway mark yet, the stage is being set for a hotly contested race for honours.

Eight points separate the soccer league’s top nine teams.

Highland Spurs became the new Mofa Premier League log leaders with a close 1-0 win over Royal Bucks on Sunday.

Bucks were at the top of the log for just a day, after beating Wells United 2-0 on Saturday.

Young Madrid, who went into the weekend at the top of the log, drew 0-0 with Young Ideas to slip to second spot, a point behind Spurs.

Bucks are now tied with Madrid, but trail on goal difference.

After beating Young Ideas 2-1 and Young Tigers 3-1, City Rangers are tied in third place with Manchester United, who beat Crystal Palace 2-0.

With a match in hand, United trail Rangers on goal difference.

Manchester FC were the biggest winners of the weekend, thrashing Real Strikers 4-0. With a two-match advantage, they are tied with Ideas in fourth place.

The race for honours in the First Division is just as close, with only five points separating the top four teams.

Amathole head the First Division log on goal difference, after crushing Scorpions 6-0.

Happy Stars, who are tied with Amathole on points, struggled in both their matches.

But they still managed to beat FC Motherwell 3-2 and Arsenal 4-3.

Motherwell Real Stars are second, despite losing 2-1 to NU29.

In their second match, they scored a close 3-2 win over FC Motherwell.

Real City, who are the fourth team in the leading bunch, scored an easy 3-0 win over Tottenham.
