Madibaz level with Old Grey in last moments

-

THE Pefa SCORE Premier League was hosted at south campus last week with NMMU Madibaz playing Mahle Old Grey in a second versus third clash.

It proved to be an entertaining game of high quality and tempo.

Old Grey dominated the first half and an excellent solo run by captain Waylen Peters ended up with a delightful through ball which Zithulele Mhlontlo neatly tucked into the bottom corner.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first, but with 10 minutes to go Madibaz started to exert some pressure on a tiring Old Grey.

With virtually the last kick of the game, a corner for Madibaz was headed clear to just outside the box before a weak shot took a wicked deflection, leaving the Old Grey goalkeeper with no chance as the match ended 1-1.

In other fixtures, PE Home Rovers were beaten 1-0 at Kemsley Park by NMBM.

Chippa United made it 12 wins in 12, defeating Forresters 4-3 at The Westbourne Oval with Siyatemba Mnganga, Dimarco Booysen and Gregory Damons (2) all on target for Chippa.

Central Acemates, utilising the new Fairview Fields, took on Callies in a highly anticipated fixture. Both sides had plenty of chances with Julian Cooper scoring both for Callies in their 2-1 win.

Blue Ribbon St George’s striker Liam Broek scored seven goals for his team in their match against Leeds Utd at the Union fields.

After coming out from the break at 2-1 ahead, St George’s scored five second-half goals, all from the boot and head of their striker.

Leeds never gave up and retaliated with their own fair share of four second-half goals.

With the score level at 5-5 with 10 minutes to go, it looked like Leeds had done enough to hold out for the draw, but Broek netted two more goals in the final stages, to give St George’s their third successive win and three points.

In the last game of the weekend, Hearts gained a vital 4-2 away win over PE Defence.
