Two couples robbed in homes

- – Gareth Wilson

THE homes of two couples were robbed in separate incidents at the weekend.

The latest attack happened in Thrush Road, Greenshields Park, at 2am yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a 62-year-old man woke up to noises inside his house.

“He went to investigate and found an unidentified man in one of the bedrooms,” she said.

“The suspect had a screwdriver in his hand and threatened both the man and his wife.”

The intruder grabbed a plasma television and an external hard drive before fleeing.

“The man gained entry to the house by forcing open a bedroom window and left via the front door.”

The man fled into nearby bushes. On Saturday, a 70-year-old woman was attacked inside her Louis Botha Crescent home in Summerstrand.

Naidu said the woman and her husband woke up to the sound of breaking glass.

“Two unknown men entered the property and demanded that she hand over her laptop,” she said.

“When she said she did not have a laptop, the suspects took a cellphone, a small amount of money, a wallet and car keys.

“There is confusion over what exactly the suspects were armed with as it was dark, but it is believed to have been a knife.”

Naidu said the men gained entry by breaking the window in an outbuilding connected to the house, and left the same way.
