SACREDSPACE, by the Cape Dance Company, artistic director Debbie Turner, at the Centenary Hall until today. Made up of:

- – Ann Knight

CLIFFNOTES, by US-based SA choreographer Andrea Schermoly:

A MEDITATIVE and searching piece danced to innovative music beautifully choreographed with sensitivity and delicacy.

The dancers intertwine to the sound of the violin.

When the music changes and becomes fast and furious, the dancers move and connect across the floor.

Silence. Then a most beautiful and intricate duet is danced with great musicality.

It is saying you are as innocent as your dreams.

Extraordinary body movements are evident as they dance effortlessly, tenderly, fluid arm movements and extended legs and feet.

This is a world-class performance.

VISCERA, by UK-based SA choreographer and dancer Mthuthuzeli November:

The cast are all in uni-costumes and the choreography is a mix of neo-classical and contemporary – girls on point. It is a fast-paced depiction of a language of movement that is universal.

Their body movements are precise and finely articulated one moment and almost mechanical, the next lyrical.

The dance portrays a chaotic life of love and hate coming together and parting.

This piece is exciting and stirring as one can see the changing scene in the world today. Again world class. ý

A THOUSAND SHEPHERDS, choreographed by Jose Agudo:

You hear the sound of ringing bowls, typical of Buddhist temples, as the sleepers slowly wake lifting their hands to heaven, fingers spreading the shifting sands.

Slowly one by one they rise and move backwards in a mesmerise state.

They are the nomads, dervishes with swirling skirts, they are the fire and sand of the earth.

They are the shepherds of the earth. They are the mysteries, politics and history of the moving times. Their dancing is hypnotic. This is a must-see for festival goers who love dance and movement.
