Two teams take thumpings

-

FRIDAY night in the Score Pefa Premier League ended in two teams being thumped by five or more goals.

At Londt Park, Callies hosted Rising Stars.

Rising Stars took an early lead, but Callies struck back with two goals just before half time.

This was followed by four more in the second half, leaving the final score 6-1 to Callies.

There was a hat-trick for Julian “Jubba” Cooper, two for Kurt Petersen and one for Razaan Safedien.

NMBM welcomed Mahle Old Grey to the Westbourne Oval.

Luvuyo Pele Bika crossed from the left wing and John Giannakis opened the scoring after controlling on his chest before firing home a left-footed volley from 12 yards out.

Giannakis doubled his tally shortly before half time when the ball was again cut back from the left wing to the edge of the 18-yard box, from where it was drilled into the top corner.

Old Grey continued in the same vein after the break, with Giannakis completing a sublime hat-trick with a bullet header into the bottom corner.

Nkosinathi Speelman added a fourth with 20 minutes left, then captain Waylon Peters made it five late in the game.

Saturday brought another win for Chippa United, making it 13 wins in as many matches.

They beat PE Home Rovers 2-0 at Kemsley Park.

Leeds United secured three points against Highbury, thanks to a walkover.

Blue Ribbon St George’s recorded their fourth consecutive win, beating PE Defence 3-2 in a tightly contested game at EP Command.

St George’s left back Tim Morgan opened the scoring early. However, Defence came back and equalised just before the break.

St George’s went 3-1 up in the second half with goals from Aphiwe Mgodi and Liam Broek, but a defensive error allowed Defence to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game to end it at 3-2.

The Forresters v Acemates match was postponed due to neither club having a home field.
