Ama-units lead Masters League

DESPITE being held to a surprise 1-1 draw by Soweto – who are 43 points behind them – Ama-units are NMB Masters League champions with three matches still to play.

Bangisizwe Bona scored the all-important goal for the probable champions.

Vuyisile Mjuza scored for Soweto, who have no hope of making the top 10, even if they win their remaining matches.

Meanwhile it was a weekend for the underdogs.

In a top-of-the-table clash, PE All Stars beat Eleven Attackers 4-2 to displace them in second place.

Luzuko Hambaze (2), Melikhaya Mgudlandlu and Andile Dunjwa scored for Stars, who are now two points ahead of Attackers.

Mandisi Gondwe and Thabo Mziadume scored a goal apiece for Attackers.

Tailenders New Brighton thrashed Gqbera 5-0.

Kwanele Dzadza led the rout with a brace.

Patrick Noboya, Vuyani Sakuba and Mbulelo Funde added the rest.

Zwide Masters were held to a 1-1 draw by Joe Slovo, who have just one point to their name.

After Lungile Davashe scored for Masters, Mziyanda Ntlali secured the point for Slovo.

The surprises continued as PE Eleven were beaten 3-1 by Veeplaas, who are 10 points adrift, with goals by Mkhululi Matroos, Mncedisi Matroos and Mziyanda Gotyana.

Mncedi Mfuku scored the consolatio­n goal for Eleven.

A goal each by Ayanda Hlakuva and Ntsikelelo Mdepa saw Young Pirates beat Eberspache­r 2-0.

Volkswagen’s yo-yo season continued with a 3-3 draw with Sparks, who remain fourth.
