ALATE try by Westering High’s Thabang Boyce saw them edge Fish Hoek 31-24 on the final day of the 10th Westering High School Co-ed Festival yesterday.

Fish Hoek drew first blood from a brilliant try scored by centre Shane Steel.

Westering’s Tigers fought back fiercely and were rewarded with a penalty which was converted by flyhalf Baphelele Pango.

The home side were later denied a golden opportunity to lead the game when Boyce lost the ball a few metres from the tryline.

Decisionmaking cost Westering dearly and the Fish Hoek pack capitalised on this as centre Yola Damoyi stretched the lead with a try.

Winger Sandile Qumtu ran from his half and pierced Westering’s defence with a try to increase their advantage even more.

Tries by Pango and centre Sisanda Matlali and two Pango conversions closed the gap to 19-17 at half time.

Westering turned things around in the second half, taking the game to Fish Hoek.

A quick try and conversion by Pango seized the lead early in the second half.

Speedy Fish Hoek winger Jayden Parker levelled matters, but Damoyi failed to convert.

Westering then stole the game in the last minute after beautiful interplay eventually saw Boyce grab the winner, converted by Pango.

ý Framesby ran in eight tries to beat a gutsy Fairmont 48-14. Framesby led 24-0 at the break.

Some solid tackling forced Framesby to return to basics after the Port Elizabeth side started the match as if it was going to be a walkover.

It took Framesby a while to get going but they had too much firepower for the Cape visitors.

Michael Wittock (flank) and William Moffatt (prop) kept up a tremendous work rate and Michael Steenkamp (flank) had a solid second half.

Grassie van Rensburg ran the show from the flyhalf positions. Scrumhalf Andre Gerber also put in a fine performance.

Moffatt, Wittock, Gerber, Van Rensburg, Duane Hanekom (2), Julian Kleyn and Izak Marais scored the Framesby tries. Van Rensburg added four conversions.

Fairmont scored the last 14 points with tries from Vuyo Miti and Jason Day, both converted by Brandon Erasmus.

In the earlier games, Despatch fell 15-12 to Cambridge, and Andrew Rabie thumped West Bank 40-3.

Bergvliet proved too strong for Alex, beating them 17-13, while Port Alfred emerged as victors in a tight encounter, beating DF Malherbe 19-18.

Woodridge rounded the festival off with a 24-5 victory over Milnerton.
