Upset results in Pefa U18 league

TWO unexpected results in the Pefa U18 league levelled the playing field at the top of the log, with only three points separating the top five teams.

Highbury ended Chippa United’s unbeaten run by winning their clash 2-1 at the Bridgmeade field, while log tail-enders Kwadwesi All Stars beat leaders Debonairs Pizza St George’s 3-1.

Chippa and St George’s are both competing in the Engen KO Challenge to be held at the Gelvandale Sports complex this weekend.

In a tense game, Callies and NMMU U16 played to a 2-2 draw which sees Callies ending the first round at the top of the log with 25 points followed by NMMU on 23.

The St George’s Braves beat Kwadwesi All Stars in a convincing 5-1 win, with Ryan Oborn scoring a hat-trick for his team. In the other U16 game, Motherwell Academy and Forresters drew 1-1.

In the U14 age group, St George’s beat Hearts 3-1, which sees them in first place on the log after round one.

Ammaar de Maine and Akha Maseti (2) scored for St George’s, while Alec van der Berg scored Hearts’ only goal.

Callies applied the pressure against Motherwell, beating them 5-1 to end in second place on the log.

In other games, Forresters beat St George’s B 2-1, while Kwadwesi All Stars B beat Callies B 3-0.

In the U12 league, Callies A beat Motherwell Academy 4-0, while St George’s A beat Priory A 5-3, with Chumani Piti scoring a long-range goal for St George’s from within his own half.

Forresters turned on the heat to beat Hearts A 4-2. Connor Ferreira and William Stucken both scored for Hearts.

Callies A top the log with 28 points, with Motherwell in second place on 24.

In the U10 league, Hearts Lads beat Priory United 2-1 in a close encounter to move to the top of the log.

Daniel Stevenson and Oliver Martin found the back of the net for Hearts, while Josh Mitchell scored for Priory.

In an upset result, Callies Braveheart­s beat St George’s Aces 2-1 while Griffin Pappin equalised for Priory All Stars in their 1-1 draw against Callies Thistles.
