TEAM Kahn singer Craig Lucas was announced as the winner of season two of The Voice SA at a jam-packed show held at the Mosaiek Teatro in Johannesburg last night.

The 23-year-old Cape Town singer, who went up against Josh Ansley in the top two, looked shocked as The Voice co-host Lungile Radu screamed his name.

The shy musician said he did not think he would even make it to the top four, let alone win the competition.

“It feels incredible, it hasn’t really sunk in yet and I don’t know what I’m gonna feel like when I wake up in the morning,” Lucas said.

“I actually didn’t think I would make it, I made peace with that.”

With Lucas’s victory, Parlotones front man Kahn Morbee also clinched the title of winning coach for the second year in a row.

Morbee, who expressed his joy for the winner, said there was no formula to winning but rather coaches ultimately gave the best person the opportunity to shine, regardless of coach banter.

More than 1.6 million votes were cast in the dramatic final week of voting, during which seven incredible singers competed for the show’s grand prize.

Before pursuing his passion for music, Lucas had to keep a promise he had made to his mother to finish his studies.

He now holds an honours degree in finance from the University of Cape Town.

Lucas joked that after winning The Voice SA he would not need his backup plan.

Lucas’s final song on The Voice stage was a passionate rendition of Sia’s Alive. He revealed his favourite performance from the show was his take on Purple Rain by Prince.

Lucas said that being on stage was a terrifying experience for him as it was the first time he had ever performed on stage.

The singer walked away with a coveted recording deal from Universal Music, R250 000 cash and other prizes.
