Race on for Pelfa top spot

- Mogan Segadavan

THE second round of the Pelfa Old Buck Legends league kicks off tomorrow evening, with just two points separating the top four teams.

The position at the top of the log has changed virtually every week, with Kuyga Masters, Hearts and African Leopards interchanging leadership.

Leaders Kuyga, who thrashed Priory 6-0 in the first round, should have an equally easy match in the return fixture at St Albans.

Callies, who head the chasing pack on goal difference, must also be favoured to beat Mahle Old Grey, at the Old Grey Sports Club.

The Londt Park team have scored more goals than any other side in the league and a 3-1 win over Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality last week was the lowest winning margin in their last four matches. In the first round, they beat Old Grey 2-0.

Hearts, who bounced back after a defeat by Shamrocks the previous week to beat Leopards 1-0 last week, will expect to pick up maximum points against PE City when they play at the Westbourne Oval. In the first round they won 1-0.

Shamrocks – the king makers last month in toppling three log leaders in as many weeks – are up against Westpark, at the Londt Park Sports Club.

In the league’s first round, Shamrocks won 2-1. In their last match, they beat PE City 2-1.

Early leaders Leopards, now fifth, must repeat their first-round win over Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to stay close to the leader pack when they clash at the Victoria Park Sports Club.

Tomorrow’s fixtures:

Hearts v PE City (Westbourne Oval), Mahle Old Grey v Callies (Old Grey Sports Club), African Leopards v NMB Municipality (Victoria Park Sports Club), Kuyga Masters v Priory (St Albans), Shamrocks v Westpark (Londt Park Sports Club).
