Albert Meintjes to woo the Bay
ALBERT Meintjes is touring the Garden Route and Eastern Cape and will perform in the Bay on Friday.
Known for his characteristic voice, outstanding songwriting and guitar skills, Meintjes has been entertaining audiences since 1996 in countries as diverse as the UK, Croatia, Egypt, the Netherlands, Mozambique, Nigeria and the Seychelles.
His recent debut solo album was well received and is a musical memoir of his life and experiences of trekking through Namibia last year.
The first track, Travelling On, has enjoyed rotation on several national channels. Meintjes is also one of the first musicians in South Africa to feature on Layar, an augmented reality (AR) app.
The new album has seen guest musicians Albert Frost, Kobus de Kock jnr, Chris van der Walt, Nick Bekker, Andre Kriel, Gideon Meintjes, Jorik Pienaar and Alouise and Ashley Holton Jacobs adding their melodies and rhythms to the pictures that Meintjes has created. Meintjes released two albums with Scicoustic (he’s been their frontman for 16 years) and one album as Algrecko featuring Greg Georgiades. He performed with New Porn alongside Arno Carstens, supporting the Metallica tour, and shared the stage with the likes of Karen Zoid, Valiant Swart and Seether.
