Exciting week for Pefa league

-

THE NMMU Madibaz drew 1-1 with Hearts as the Score Pefa Premier League kicked off on Wednesday last week.

Friday night saw Hearts in action again, this time at the Westbourne Oval against Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB). In what was one of the highest scoring games of the round, Hearts emerged 4-3 victors.

In the other Friday night fixture, NMMU Madibaz welcomed the all conquering Chippa United to the south campus.

Madibaz must have thought they had it in the bag after taking the lead with a penalty. However, with 12 minutes left, a great cross from Shaylin Minnie was converted by Dimarco Booysen.

Chippa were not done, and with only five minutes left, Gregory Damons crossed into the box for Minnie to convert an unstoppable header, for a final 2-1 score.

Saturday’s games began at Kemsley Park, where PE Home Rovers emerged 2-1 victors over Rising Stars.

Blue Ribbon St George’s went down 4-3 to Highbury, at the Union Olympics.

Callies travelled to take on PE Defence and went 1-0 up in the first half, thanks to Julian Cooper, and must have thought they had secured three points.

But missing a penalty proved costly and PE Defence equalised in the second minute of stoppage time.

A depleted Mahle Old Grey were looking to carry on where they left off, making a trip to Fairview to take on Central Acemates in a second versus fourth clash.

The game started slowly and meandered along to half time at 0-0.

Old Grey shifted through the gears in the second half and went ahead after a tidy finish by Waylen Peters, following a good pass from Siyanda Zulu.

Old Grey continued to exert pressure and were duly awarded a penalty, which Sivuyile Jerry Ngoqo converted five minutes from time to secure all three points for his team.
