Woodridge do well in G’town

THE Woodridge boys’ and girls’ hockey sides have found Grahamstow­n a happy venue, with both sides recording good victories there.

The girls played attractive hockey against DSG, with a good team effort giving them a 2-0 lead at half time.

Both goals were scored by Edith Molikoe.

Woodridge kept up the pressure after the break, with Genee Phillips adding a brace.

DSG then came back well, scoring two goals of their own, but Woodridge’s fighting spirit enabled them to record a 4-2 victory.

Playing against Kingswood last Wednesday, the U16A boys’ side squandered a few opportunit­ies in the first half, but came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1, scoring the winner in the last three minutes.

The boys’ first team came out strongly, taking an early lead through Cuan Kingwill.

Further goals came from Tom Bailey as they sealed a solid 3-1 victory.

Against St Andrew’s on Saturday, Woodridge scored another 3-1 win.

St Andrew’s took the lead with a superb back stick shot from Peter Jarvis in the first five minutes.

Woodridge began their fightback through Jarrod Darvel and a superb penalty flick save from debutant keeper Kamva Dyakala on the stroke of half time kept it level at the break.

Woodridge played with determinat­ion in the second half and another brace by Bailey sealed the 3-1 win.

In other hockey action, the St Andrew’s U14B team had an excellent match but narrowly lost 2-1 to Kingswood U16C last Wednesday, conceding a goal in the last minute.

The St Andrew’s U16Ds’ effort and commitment at practice paid off as they scored four goals to beat Kingswood U14B convincing­ly.

On Saturday, St Andrew’s U14A beat Woodridge 3-2, with Murray Bowker and Matthew Pope having excellent games.

St Andrew’s U16C did well to score twice, but conceded two breakaway goals to draw 2-2.

The U16Bs put on a good display after the long break to beat Woodridge 4-0, with Dale Brody, Jonathan Shamwana and James Duthie all having an excellent match.

The U16As conceded two late goals against a very good Woodridge side to draw 2-2.

St Andrew’s seconds played an excellent passing game to romp to a 9-1 win.

ý In the St Andrew’s inter-house rugby tourney, Upper House won the senior competitio­n and Graham House the junior.
