Women’s month contest starts today

THE annual Safa-NMB Women’s Month Celebratio­n Tournament will kick off at the N2 Stadium this morning.

Twenty-five teams have been divided into four groups of five. The fifth group will consist of five Safa-NMB Sasol League teams.

The teams will play a round robin which will continue this weekend.

The top team from each group will go through to the knockout stage on Sunday.

Four teams from the Regional League and two from the Sasol League will advance to the semifinals.

The finals are scheduled to be played at 4.30pm on Sunday.

Matches kick off at 9am on all three days.

All clubs participat­ing in the tournament will receive equipment.

The winning team will receive a trophy, medals, equipment and kit.

The runner-up will receive medals and equipment.

There will be special awards for the best goalkeeper, best player, best coach, best referee, best assistant referee, manager of the tournament and the youngest player in the tournament.

Group A: Shatterpru­fe, Kubs, Highbury, Young Aces, Hearts. Group B: NMMU Madibaz, Dower United, Bodene, Golden Stars (WRL), Tomorrow Stars. Group C: Park United, Kuyga Ladies, Rainbow Stars, Vuku Wanderers, African Chiefs. Group D: Warriors, PE United, Zwide All Stars, Volcano, Walmer Ladies. Group E: Sophakama, City Lads, Manchester Babes, Golden Stars, Continenta­l (all Sasol League).

Ground A: Kubs v Shatterpru­fe, Dower United v NMMU Madibaz, Kuyga Ladies v Park United, PE United v Warriors, City Lads v Sophakama, SHatterpru­fe v Highbury, NMMU Madibaz v Bodene, Park United v Rainbow Stars, Warriors v Zwide All Stars, Sophakama v Manchester Babes.

Ground B: Highbury v Hearts, Bodene v Tomorrow Stars, Rainbow Stars v African Chiefs, Zwide All Stars v Walmer Ladies, Manchester Babes v Continenta­l, Hearts v Young Aces, Tomorrow Stars v Golden Stars (WRL), African Chiefs v Vuku Wanderers, Walmer Ladies v Volcano, Continenta­l v Golden Stars (Sasol).
