JOHANN Dreyer, then chief executive of Madiba Bay Resorts which managed The Willows, said they had spent more than R20-million of their own money to transform the resort into “one of the best seaside resorts in PE”.

He was responding to the metro’s plans to revisit matters contained in the Kabuso forensic report, and the recommendation by mayor Athol Trollip that Madiba Bay Resorts be evicted.

Dreyer said no one had attempted to get the real story from him. “I have tried to see Trollip for a year,” he said.

“If I was Mr Trollip, I would be more worried about the court matter between Madiba Bay and the municipality but he doesn’t want the truth to come out.”

“If Trollip knows anything about the law, he would know that the [legal] prescription has expired.

“The matter has been going on for 15 years and you people don’t want to hear the truth.”

Africorp declined to comment on the municipality revisiting the Kabuso report.

Its financial director, Goolam Mohammed, said: “We have no comment. We think the mayor is doing a sterling job.”

Former acting municipal manager Elias Ntoba could not be reached, while the number for Isimilo Investments was not in service.

A number listed for Kobus Smit, who was implicated in the matters involving Ruco Properties and Buhlebendalo, went to voicemail.
