Tinarha completes half-marathon double

TINARHA Athletics Club completed the double in the Oak Cottage Mountain Drive half-marathon on Saturday, winning both the men’s and women’s categories.

Andile Morwana, 20, was the overall winner in 1hr 7min 10sec, easily beating Ikhamva athletes Melikhaya Frans and Amos Nyongo.

Ndileka Mvakwendlu won the women’s category, well ahead of Sarah Raubenheim­er and Claire McCann.

Junior men: Anele Voorman (Nedbank), 1:19:51, Ayabonga Saul (Kowie Striders) 1:42:09, Moloko Mokubedi (Rhodes University), 1:49:35. Junior women: Nomakhosi Ntliziyo (Madibaz) 1:56:41 COMRADES legend Bruce Fordyce was in Jeffreys Bay on Saturday to launch the latest parkrun in the country.

He was joined by more than 200 participan­ts, including Henry Pienaar and Tracy Rankin, who, like Fordyce, have more that 250 parkruns under the belt.

Meanwhile, nearly 800 participan­ts turned up for the three 5km timed parkruns in the metro on Saturday.

While parkruns are not races, the times of all registered athletes are recorded to chart their own progress.

The best time this weekend was recorded by Cody Coombe-Davis who completed the Hobie Beach parkrun in 18:17 with Bernard Kapp second in 18:27

The fastest time for women was also at Hobie Beach, with Liza Kingston finishing in 19:19 ahead of Ari Wessels, who finished in 19:56.

Pramod Jaram, from the Volkswagen Athletic Club, became the latest local athlete to join the 100 Club – participan­ts who have completed 100 parkruns.
