Keen rivalry in Knockout Cup

THE opening rounds of the PE Football Associatio­n Junior Knockout Cup took place on Sunday at various fields around the metro.

U10: Callies Highlander­s beat Priory All Stars 3-0, with goals by Morgan Mould (2) and Miles Feltham.

Priory Saints v Hearts Hawks went into extra time at 0-0.

In the shootout, Saints came through to win 3-2.

Priory goalkeeper Declan Petrie made a winning save. In the other game, Hearts Eagles beat Debonairs Pizza St George’s Colts 5-2.

U12: Callies A, Priory A, St George’s A and Motherwell all won and go to the quarterfin­als on September 27.

U14: KwaDwesi All Stars beat Callies B 5-0.

U16: Forresters beat St George’s Colts 5-2.

U18: St George’s held Chippa United to a 2-2 draw, with a late equaliser by Nick Broek. Thando Jacobs and Liyema Mombombo netted for Chippa.

Despite the draw, Chippa remain at the top of the table.

Motherwell Academy and NMU scored easy wins over Highbury and Callies respective­ly.

U8: Callies Claymores beat Priory Warriors 3-0, with a third hattrick in a row for Trent Barnardo.

St George’s Dragons, with Kamva Mrwadi scoring all their goals, drew 3-3 with Priory Chiefs.

Hearts All Stars beat Callies Rievers 1-0 through Elijah Jackson, while Denis Heasley scored twice for St George’s Braveheart­s in their 2-0 win over Priory Knights.

Hearts Gladiators beat Motherwell Academy 1-0 to claim the A stream league title with a game in hand.

They have won all 13 of their league games, bagging 49 goals so far and conceding only three.
