Westering, Alex share derby spoils

-

ALEXANDER Road and Westering locked horns in an exciting derby hosted by Westering.

Westering got things off to a flyer in the boys’ hockey fixtures on Friday.

The Alex second and U14A sides lost their clashes, while Alex’s U16A and B teams recorded wins.

The U14B match ended in a draw, while the only girls’ hockey match on Friday saw Westering U14A win 2-0.

On Saturday morning, the Alex girls’ first side dominated play for most of the game but were unable to capitalise on a number of chances.

Westering managed to take the lead early in the second half.

Alex continued to press for an equaliser, but had the final shot of the game from a penalty corner disallowed.

In the much anticipated boys’ first-team match, Joshua Kebble opened the scoring for Westering in the first half.

Dylan Muller increased their lead with a well-worked goal, but with 11 minutes remaining, Alex’s CJ Amuyelwa pulled one back for the visitors. However, the Westering defence proved solid to keep their opponents at bay.

Alexander Road girls’ U16A continued their run of good form with a 4-0 win, with Asti Nama and Lucy Sarfo each scored a brace.

Besides winning the first team rugby match 67-17, Westering recorded victories over the Alex U14A, U16A and second sides, while Alex U15A beat Westering 20-8.

In the netball matches, Westering U19A kept the Alex team attack at bay for a 23-19 victory.
