‘Idols’ judges have high praise for PE entrant Daniels, now one of contest’s last 29
PORT Elizabeth’s Christo Daniels received massive praise from
Idols South Africa judges during his solo performance on Sunday
as he belted out Loyiso Bala’s Girl Without a Name.
Daniels, 21, of Bethelsdorp, made it through the pop-up auditions in Port Elizabeth and is now one of 29 hopefuls gunning for a spot in the top 16.
Judges Somizi Mhlongo and Randall Abrahams said they were impressed by his performance.
Mhlongo said his performance was crystal clear, and Abrahams called Daniels the last great male hope for season 13.
There are only nine men left in the competition.
Abrahams said: “It was technically good and soulful. Nothing too much and nothing too little.”
Most of the men failed to impress as they struggled through their lyrics and melodies.
Daniels said it was great that he had received a positive response from the judges.
“It felt really amazing that the judges loved my performance,” he said. “My gut tells me I have an 80% chance of making it to the top 16, but I cannot relax because the contestants are very talented.”
Daniels started singing in church at the age of seven.
He said he had been more of a gospel singer and it was the first time he had got out of his comfort zone.
On Sunday, Idols judges will select the top 16 on Mzansi Magic channel 161 at 5.30pm.
