PE student in line for spot on MTV
PORT Elizabeth student Kuhle Adams has made it to the top three of the MTV Base VJ Search competition.
After more than 8 000 hopefuls entered the competition, Adams, 21, is the last woman standing in the presenter search.
She will go up against Gontse Makgoba, from Johannesburg, and Tshego Mosupye, from Pretoria.
A social sciences student at the University of Cape Town, Adams said being a presenter was something she had always wanted to do and, with the encouragement of her sister, she had auditioned at the Port Elizabeth leg.
“MTV Base opens up a lot of opportunities and being associated with a brand that represents a culture I follow is an absolute pleasure and honour,” she said.
The platinum blonde from KwaMagxaki said being on the show had definitely made an impact on her daily life.
“Already some of my classmates who know me recognise me from the show and I’ve been fortunate enough that my department has made provisions for me in terms of exams.”
She said winning the competition meant she would be living out her dream. BET, Youth and Music for Africa vice-president Monde Twala said the MTV Base VJ Search format provided an opportunity to open up the industry for young hopefuls.
“MTV’s ability to discover and elevate talent on the continent remains a primary brand focus.”
Contestants competed in challenges weekly, such as testing their styling techniques and interviewing skills.
The winner receives a 12-month contract to host MTV Base shows.
The winner of the MTV Base VJ Search on MTV Base, channel 322, will be announced on August 27.
