Treat of gambling and guffaws

Treat of gambling and guffaws

FRIDAY is a special day, not only because it’s the beginning of three days of fun, but because you get to soak up all the salacious gossip sourced by your Skinnerbek! Last Friday a dapper friend and I decided to put our money where our mouths were by heading to the Boardwalk Casino for a bit of baccarat fun.

The Boardwalk was launching their new baccarat tables for invited guests only.

Yours truly does not have a clue when it comes to gambling but didn’t fare too badly during the practice round.

However, as soon as things got serious your Skinners was on a losing streak of note, squandering chips worth R10 000.

Most of the guests in the Baccarat Suite looked stunning as the dress code was formal. But then there were one or two who looked like they were going surfing.

Last Saturday night was another treat for your VIP gossip queen. I jetted to Jozi to attend an exclusive evening of laughter with Trevor Noah in action in his comedy skit Getting to Noah You at the Joburg Theatre.

Noah was his usual entertaining self even though I would say he was hilarious only 60% of the time.

There were too many American jokes in there, which is fine if he’s in the States. But when he is here, we expect to hear local jokes.

We are not joking when we say local is lekker!

Skinners caught a glimpse of a number of celebs, among them Lira, Unathi Msengana and Basetsana Khumalo, who were all in the VVIP section which unfortunately I was not invited to.

A funny moment came when I spotted Bobby van Jaarsveld and his wife waiting for more than five minutes at the bar before being served. I do not think the barmen recognised him or if they did, there were more important fish to fry.

Until next time, darlings . . . ciao and stay warm and dry!
