African cuisine hits the spot

Worms on menu at culture fest

-

ACHILLY Port Elizabeth could not keep festinos away from the Nelson Mandela University’s International Culture Festival at the Tramways Building last Saturday.

If you wanted ideas on what to wear or what to cook for Heritage Day in September, then this was the place to be.

Cuisine from all over Africa could be found including those blasted mopane worms. I tried them because I’d like to think I’m adventurous, although I’m actually not.

Students looked colourful in their doeks and traditional outfits and Skinnerbek even spotted a couple of Mandela Bay Fashion Week models such as Tendai Paula Danda and Rimbizai . . . . Oh, to be skinny and young.

After that event your gossip girl went to Kwano’s Meat Corner for the Russian Bear #iamnext competition. I am not sure if people did not know about this event because some seemed to ignore it, but KwaNobuhle’s hip-hop heads turned up in their numbers and supported those who auditioned for a chance to record with Kwesta.

Last Saturday one of my minions was lucky enough to see Zonke Dikana live in concert at the Boardwalk ICC. Zonke looked stunning in a monochromatic sequined ensemble.

She should be an ambassador for girls with short hair because she has been rocking that do long before it became a trend.

My minion, who loves sing-along shows, was in her element and noted that Zonke had everyone on their feet singing and dancing to her tunes.

One of the surprises of the day was the comic relief delivered by rising star Tsepiso Nzayo.

There was not a single straight face in the room when he was on stage and I also hear the brother looked mighty fine in his MaXhosa jersey by Laduma Ngxokolo.

Don’t you love it when Port Elizabethans support their own? I know I do.

Until next time darlings, it’s ciao for now!
