Pelfa teams in battle for places this week

- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@tisoblackstar.co.za

THREE matches will be played this week as the Pelfa Old Buck soccer league season winds down.

None of the six teams in action can win the league title.

However, Hearts would keep their hopes of a third-place finish alive with maximum points against Shamrocks at the Westbourne Oval.

Shamrocks, themselves, could finish third if they beat Hearts tonight and PE City on Wednesday evening.

Although they are just one place away from the bottom of the log, Westpark could decide who are crowned champions.

After having held NMB Municipality to a 1-1 draw in a midweek fixture, they play Mahle Old Grey tonight.

On Wednesday, they take on log-leaders Kuyga Masters, who have a one-point lead over Callies.

Last week, the unfancied PE City side came close to putting the cat among the pigeons when they went down 1-0 to Kuyga.

If Westpark manage a win, Kuyga could be pipped at the post by Callies, who play NMB Municipality in their final fixture.

In the first round, Kuyga scraped home to a 3-2 win.

Callies beat Municipality 3-1 in the first round and must repeat the result and hope Westpark hold Kuyga to a draw at least.

Last week’s results were:

PE City 0 Mahle Old Grey 3, Westpark 1 NMB Municipality 1, Callies 2 African Leopards 1, Kuyga Masters 1 PE City 0 ý

This week’s fixtures are:

Tonight: Mahle Old Grey v Westpark (Old Grey), NMB Municipality v Priory (Westbourne Oval), Shamrocks v Hearts (Westbourne Oval) Wednesday: Hearts v African Leopards (Westbourne Oval), PE City v Shamrocks (Victoria Park), Priory v Mahle Old Grey (NMMU south campus), Callies v NMB Municipality (Londt Park), Westpark v Kuyga Masters (Londt Park)
