MORE than 3 000 people enjoyed the inaugural KFC Herald Family Country Fair held at Holmeleigh Farmyard on Saturday. The spring day brought perfect weather, so families could enjoy being together outdoors with the animals on the touch farm and take advantage of all the activities on offer at the fair.
The food court was buzzing with 18 food trucks and live entertainment throughout the day, and R70 000 worth of prizes was given out on the day.
Westering resident Sharné Woods, 30, was there with her husband and daughter.
“This is exactly what PE needs,” she said.
“My family and friends had a blast. There was so much to see and do and there were so many prizes up for grabs. The vibe was awesome. We will definitely be back next year.”
The charity-driven event hosted a variety of charities from Nelson
Mandela Bay including St Francis Hospice, Sanccob, Isithembiso Babies Home, Rotoract and KFC Add Hope beneficiaries Khayalethu Youth Centre, Eastern Province Child and Youth Care Centre and Oosterland Youth Centre.
The Herald donated R10 000 raised through ticket sales to the KFC Add Hope beneficiaries.
The Herald and Weekend Post general manager Nadeem Joshua said: “We are very pleased to donate this sum to charities of the KFC Add Hope campaign who were represented on the day.”
KFC Eastern Cape marketing manager Aimee de la Harpe said: “The inaugural KFC Herald Family Country Fair was a huge success and truly a great day out with our customers from the metro.
“The Add Hope beneficiaries, Eastern Province Child and Youth Care Centre and Oosterland Youth Centre, who had stalls at the event, were bowled over by the support from visitors and were both able to raise funds for the children they care for.
“In addition, visitors were asked to make a donation to the children’s homes and a total of R4 500 was raised. This will go towards items on the beneficiaries’ respective wish lists,” De La Harpe said.
“Visitors to the KFC Zone enjoyed lots of action with the mini cricket zone, lawn games, spin and win and the KFC bucket jumping castle, which were visited by fairgoers of all ages,” she said.
Hundreds of readers entered the Oceana Beach and Wildlife Reserve family getaway competition worth R23 000 and a family photo shoot from Rogue Photography valued at R650.
New Brighton resident Babalwa Gube was the lucky winner and she was ecstatic when she heard she had won the main prize.
“I cannot believe it! This is a dream come true for me. Thank you so much!” she said.
