Why two different tariffs charged for electricity?

-

WITH reference to the SMS messages from the municipality to pre-paid meter owners whereby they were informed of being undercharged between July 1 and 2, and that the amount would be recovered in September and October, I pose the following.

The municipal electricity tariffs have two categories, namely ATTP consumers (credit meters) and non-ATTP consumers (pre-paid meters).

What transpired is that pre-paid owners were charged the credit meter tariffs on those dates.

For some unexplained reason the pre-paid tariffs are considerably more than for credit meters.

By example: ATTP consumers (credit meters) – 600kwh costs R803.

Non-ATTP consumers (pre-paid) – 600 kwh costs R968.

This is a huge difference of R165 for the same usage.

Consider that pre-paid consumers pay before consumption and, furthermore, do not require monthly statements, a further saving.

An explanation from the municipality for this large discrepancy is owed to the consumers.

Previous correspondence in this connection to the electricity department was ignored.

Denzil Filmer, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth “NMBM – Due to a technical error electricity was sold to you on 01/02/2017 at lower tariff meter no . . .” Now you want to recover R159. When I called the number that you give in the SMS, this company, situated in Durban, told me to phone the NMBM.

So why now all of a sudden was there a technical error?

For the past 10 years-plus I have been buying the units at the same outlet, so who made the technical error?

Since you have been in power, Mr Mayor, it is just pay pay pay, whether you are a pensioner or not.

Why should we vote for you again?

All you want is our hard-earned money for little service – Matthews Street, Charlo still full of holes.
