Using money amounts to stealing it

-

WHAT has happened to the nation’s youth?

All sorts of lame excuses are placed before the citizens by the student herself and the SRC of Walter Sisulu University for the theft of hundreds of thousands of rand (“Living the high life after R14m bungle”, August 31).

She absolutely knew that she was not legally entitled to more than her monthly student grant of R1 400, yet willfully spent the money not due to her. That is not a mistake, that is simply theft! We would not tolerate similar excuses in our beloved game of football by claiming a goal should be allowed when the ball strikes the upright because the wind was blowing strongly enough to deflect the ball from the net, or that a kick to an opponent was permissible because his crotch happened to be in the way of a lifted foot.

She’s allegedly a thief and needs to be accountable.

Stupid excuses will rightfully condemn us as just another bunch of corrupt occupants of this “dark” continent.

Disgraced African, Port Alfred SO, Sibongile Mani, who squandered more than R800 000 of the R14.1-million erroneously paid into her bank account, is a second year accounting student.

This makes one wonder just what is being taught to accounting students.

Evidently business ethics does not form part of the curriculum.

Of course, the cynical among us will say she is studying on a Gupta scholarship with her eye on a cabinet post.
