TOP Port Elizabeth ABC Motsepe League soccer side Lion City are looking to open the season on a high note when they host Spears in Motherwell tomorrow (3pm). City finished third last season but this time they have vowed to go all the way.

Team boss Ngubo Biyana said the players were focused and ready to start the season.

“Our plan every season is to challenge for the title. We are looking for third time lucky since this is our third season in the ABC league,” he said.

“We have signed a couple of new players to strengthen the team in defence and in attack.

“Our finishing was very poor last season and I think that was what cost us.”

Biyana said the name change of Matatiele Professional to Spears did not frighten them.

“It’s just that they have changed the label but the beer is still the same,” he said.

“The boys are not frightened and they are ready for the season.”

Last season saw two of the seven PE-based soccer clubs in the ABC relegated – Morning Stars and Young Ideas.
