Our Icon should have the edge

- Herald Racing Editor

TOMORROW’S Fairview 1 800 on the Polytrack looks wide open, but Alan Greeff-trained Our Icon is weighted to win.

He won three races in a row but finished seventh in his last race, 2,65 lengths behind Miracle Bureau. However, Our Icon was not disgraced and was passing a few runners late.

Our Icon is an above average sort having won eight of his 20 starts. The six-yearold son of Dynasty cost R3 million as a yearling and still needs a few winner’s cheques to get out of the red. At this stage of his career he has won R465 350 in prize money.

Aldo Domeyer retains the ride.

Stormy Eclipse, who will have Charles Ndlovu up for trainer Tara Laing, could upset the applecart. In his last race he finished second behind Stratocruiser over 1 600m but although running on, found his stride too late.

If one considers he was well off the pace at the 400m mark he made a great recovery in the closing stages.

Gimme The Stars was another who let Stratocruiser get away from then early in the race and the Yvette Bremner-trained runner has to be a serious contender if jockey Karl Zechner can keep him in contention early in the race,

Road To Indy has good recent form and looks ready for a big run.

He is a five-time winner from 17 outings and needs to be respected. Justin Snaith’s Dynamic cannot be underestimated. The five-time winner has Raymond Danielson up and punters can therefore expect an improved performance on his seventh place in his last race. On that occasion he lost two lengths at the start and that run should be ignored.

Laws Of Succession is in great form, but comes off a rest. In his last race on June 23 he finished strongly to beat It Is Written over 1 800m by a length. If he returns fresh, with Lyle Hewitson in the saddle and jumping from pole position he should be a serious contender.

True Master and Master ’N Commander also deserve to be considered. True Master, an eight-year-old son of Jet Master, won his last race when he defeated Gimme The Stars by 0,50 lengths.

Master ’N Commander comes to the Eastern Cape with decent form.

In the final analysis the final vote goes to Our Icon with Stormy Eclipse, Gimme The Stars and Road To Indy next best.

The first race is off at 1245 with a Maiden Plate for all maidens. Alan Greeff and Aldo Domeyer can see punters off to a winning start with Mambo Tango.
