Confidence challenge for Chilli Boys

HIS players need to be sharp in front of goal when they play against Polokwane City in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge match at the Old Peter Makaba Stadium on Saturday, says Chipppa United reserve side coach Glen Minnie.

He had been working on his players’ confidence in front of goal as they tended to want to pass on the responsibility when they were in the right position to take their shot, he said this week.

“I have noticed that the players are passing on their responsibility,” he said. “Sometimes somebody is in a position to score, but he will pass the ball.

“So I am trying to encourage them to be more confident and take the decision to score.

“We are working on their confidence in front of goal and we have spent a lot of time on finishing.

“We could have won our previous game considering the chances we missed – they were too many.

“[We were even] missing one-on-ones with the goalkeeper.

“I was disappointed we let that game slip because that was a great chance of getting three points.”

“We have an away game again and we need to be clinical and finish.”

The Chilli Boys kept a clean sheet in their previous two games, a run Minnie would like to extend.

He said he would not be making any changes to the team and that the players were injury-free.

The coach said his plan was to at least bag seven points from their last three matches before going on the international break.

“We really need to start scoring because these draws are not going to do any good,” he said.

“We need to at least get seven points from our next three games before the Fifa break.

“We can do it.”
