Strongly contrasting reader input
IN Thursday’s The Herald there were two starkly contrasting inputs on the Your Views letters page.
One was from Robert Istvan, writing from Budapest (“Sympathies to Schoenies folk”).
This is a sensitive and supportive letter expressing support and concern for the Schoenmakerskop community who have had their world shattered by the horrific murder of a dear neighbour and the heinous attack on his life partner.
Mr Editor, I commend you for publishing a letter that shows a deep understanding of what a traumatised community is suffering at present.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Sickened’s sickening chirp on the same page (“Will DA be blamed for attack?”).
You should have flushed this scurrilous and outrageously defamatory and utterly insensitive chirp down the nearest lavatory. Shame on you!
I have been a loyal The Herald subscriber for most of my life.
This is not what I expect to see in “my” newspaper.
You owe an apology to Rory Riordan, my son-in-law, for allowing The Herald to be a vehicle for besmirching the name of a hard-working, loyal and thoroughly decent member of our Schoenies community.
I suggest you have a good look at your own policy on the letters page where you state that “personal attacks will not be tolerated”.
