Greeff’s Juan Two Three has the best credentials

THE combination of Alan Greeff and Greg Cheyne could be the road to success on the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

Cheyne is back in action for Port Elizabeth’s leading stable after an absence of a few weeks.

He rides Juan Two Three in the main event of the day, Race 6, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1 000m for a stake of R99 000.

Juan Two Three is undoubtedly the class horse of the race. Although he is a specialist over 1 200m, this 1 000m trip should not be a problem. In his penultimate race Aldo Domeyer won over tomorrow’s distance when they defeated Thayer by 0,50 lengths.

Juan Two Three faces some classy 1 000m sprinters but he does have the advantage of jumping from poll position.

On form the former Duncan Howells-trained runner, Elusivenchantment, could be a big danger if he has adapted to his new surroundings. The five-year-old daughter of Elusive Fort makes her debut for Yvette Bremner and with young Lyle Hewitson in the saddle he might not be in need of the run.

She is a classy sort with six wins from 16 outings.

Villa Del Largo is battling to win lately, but showed an improved performance last time when he finished 3,05 lengths behind Favour’s Pride.

The rest of the seven-horse field are all capable of winning the race. Varonella won his penultimate start comfortably by 2,50 lengths, and should be in contention in the closing stages.

Zip Line, from the Corné Spies stable, also deserves the utmost respect. He fought on gamely to win his last race and carries 3,5kg less this time. Craig Zackey retains the ride.

Varsity Cup is also proven over the 1 000m trip and will only carry 52,5kg compared to the 60kg of last time. This big turnaround in weight could give apprentice Tejash Juglall a huge chance.

Cheyne also has a winning chance in Race 7 where he rides Perfect Tale. He was an easy winner last time out but is returning from a lengthy break. Greeff should, nevertheless, have him ready for a second career win.

The meeting gets under way at 1245 with a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1 000m.
