Grey end week on losing note

-

GREY High’s unbeaten run ended on the final day of the Cape Schools Week on Tuesday, as their batting collapsed to see them bowled out 28 runs short of Rondebosch’s target.

Grey won the toss and sent Rondebosch in to bat, and had the visitors in a great deal of trouble at 74/7.

But Cole Walbrugh (62no) and Daniel Moriarty (45) joined to share a 100 run partnership for the eighth wicket, enabling Rondebsoch to set a par score of 199.

Grey looked well set at 88 for 3, but lost skipper Sean Callaghan in the tea-time over. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, mainly due to the well-controlled left-arm spin of Jordan Collier.

Paul Roos were the only team to end the week unbeaten, enjoying an exciting win on the final day against St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown in a high-scoring game.

A century by Lourens Smit led the Paul Roos batting lineup to chase down 242 in the allotted 50 overs.
