Drivers don’t have licences

-

IT is no wonder that the M17 has been brought to the fore for behaviour that is on the boundary of lawlessness (“Residents say prayer on deadly PE road”, September 25), because most of the culprit drivers on that stretch of dangerous road have no licences to be behind a wheel, let alone in their rickety jalopies that are not supposed to be on the road.

This, of course, glaringly illustrates the desperado tendencies by the kamikaze drivers because of the lack of jobs in the Bay.

Motherwell is more than 30 years old, so it is not an outpost of excess population, as Group Areas Act of old treated native South Africans.

It is an established settlement and needs to be treated with all the respect it deserves, not like at present.

There is no yellow line on this road and that could point to embezzlement of funds by the builders of the road many moons ago.

This could have served to alleviate the traffic jams by these skorokoros that are a hazard.

The N2 through the Addo road, although well built, is a hassle to access for our overhead bridges are two-laned. So they were not planned for the future, for the buildup of the traffic we now see on our roads in the Bay.

One other solution to this transport headache would be a rail line. Transnet’s Prasa must come to the rescue so the township economy can gain traction from all modes of transport to facilitate activities that create jobs.
