SUPERSPORT United winger Aubrey Modiba has promised fireworks ahead of the MTN8 final clash against former teammates in Cape Town City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Modiba played for Mpumalanga Black Aces before joining SuperSport ahead of the 2016-17 season.

Soon after, Aces’ franchise was sold to John Comitis‚ who formed Cape Town City.

The Limpopo-born star, 22, said he would not have a soft spot for his former clubmates and is certain that he will get a goal.

“We are looking forward to the game and we are fully prepared for them‚” the Bafana Bafana international said.

“Obviously, we know it won’t be an easy one. We know that we are going to be up against a good side‚ but we are confident that we are going there to get a win.”

Modiba said both sides were playing attractive football and he hoped that fans would come to the stadium in high numbers.

For SuperSport coach Eric Tinkler‚ this will be the first time in charge of his new club in a cup final and also against his old team.

Cape Town City winger Lyle Lakay has extra motivation for winning the MTN8 final as victory would turn him into an instant hometown hero in Silvertown‚ Athlone.

A triumph in the R8-million Wafa Wafa cup would act as a belated homecoming celebration. Lakay returned home to the Mother City to join City in the offseason after spending six years with Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Cape side are aiming for their second championship in their second year since formation after winning the Telkom Knockout last season.

Lakay, 26, could make an immediate impact by bringing home the top eight title after only two months at his new club.

“Playing at home for my family and community is a different feeling to being at another club‚” Lakay said.

“Obviously I would love to put a smile on our fans faces here in Cape Town and do them proud. I know they will be supporting me and I wouldn’t want to let them down. City had a blistering start under coach Benni McCarthy‚ their 2017-18 season beginning with a five-match winning streak in all competitions.

Assessing his former employers SuperSport‚ where the winger started his career from 2009 to 2012‚ Lakay believes the Capetonians have more youthful exuberance than Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

Lakay backed coach McCarthy to transmit his passion through to his players.

“It’s a good feeling to play for a coach who is hungry and also a proven winner willing to fight for his players.

“He is only doing it to push you to become a better footballer.

“Each coach has his methods to get the best out of you.”
