Westering geared up for T20 challenge tourney

-

WESTERING Primary will host the second instalment of their U13 Twenty20 cricket challenge on Friday and Saturday.

All eight participating schools will play three matches – one on Friday afternoon and two on Saturday.

The tournament will run as a knockout competition, consisting of Bowl and Cup sections. All teams will be in the Cup section on Friday afternoon, with the winners of each match continuing in the Cup section and the losers going on to contest the Bowl section on Saturday.

Westering, Sunridge, Summerwood, Clarendon Park, Komga Junior, Harvest Christian School, St George’s and Verkenner are the schools taking part.

Clarendon Park will look to defend their Cup title and Sunridge will be aiming to go one better after winning the Bowl section last year.

“We feel that a tournament of this nature will go a long way to the development of the young cricketers within our province,” tournament organiser Bradley Holtzhausen said.

“The tournament also provides teams the opportunity to prepare for their upcoming league, and fill the gap between the winter season and the start of the new cricket season.

“We appreciate the support of our visiting teams and look forward to competitive cricket.

“Most importantly, we hope the boys will have fun and make sure to build on new friendships.”
