DON’T ALLOW ROHDE TO SPEAK FOR WIFE

WHY do we call cheating “having an affair”? It’s called adultery. Even Christopher Hitchens left the seventh Commandment in place when he revised the Ten Commandments.

Jason Rohde says his marriage deteriorated because his wife, Susan, had become “irrational, obsessive, angry and sad” (“Rohde tells court in plea his wife committed suicide”, October 10). Surely those are normal emotions, provoked by a cheating spouse?

It seems unlikely that Susan Rohde (or any woman) would resort to hanging herself (and naked) in a public space. Women seldom use hanging to end their lives – too violent! Let’s challenge Jason Rohde to invite Prof Lourens Schlebusch, a world authority on suicide, to give his expert opinion in the case.

Another woman is silent! We should not allow anyone to put words into her mouth, especially not her estranged, cheating husband. JUSTICE4SUSAN

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

“NEED honest ANC leaders” (October 17): Viwe Sidali, don’t hold your breath waiting, brother. MARK MANDELA Siyabulela (“Academic the victim of ‘black purge’ ”, October 18), on first glance it seems your attack on NMU is all sour grapes based on what you say in what seems an attempt to self-justify using typical racist reasoning. Excellence and endurance will always overshadow mediocrity, and at NMU level it should be so, so that all benefit.

Like the ANC, which has come of age mainly due to technology and which has lost the plot in deceiving most for personal wealth with limited delivery, using the masses. It does this knowing their poverty has allowed the DA to capitalise and take things to a new level.

Then there is Bafana Bafana who always create so much expectation without any hindrances and who have not found the answers. Luckily this is only sport, but an eye-opener.

There can be no excuse for not creating a better world where continuous improvement is not included. Not that we ever will arrive, but we strive as true character will hopefully create opportunity. SC

ISMAIL Lagardien resigned. He said so himself. Mandela Siyabulela, what planet are you on? MICH ED Rainsford, cricket commentator (“Commentator irritates”, October 17): could not agree with Hansie more. I find his irrelevant comments most irritating. And as for the two commentators who jabber away instead of concentrating on the game, I feel this is just bad manners.
