TINARHA runner Andile Motwana won the 15km road race organised by the Vukani Athletic Club on Saturday while former Two Oceans winner George Ntshiliza, 38, proved he still has what it takes.

Ntshiliza, who runs for Nedbank AC, was beaten by two minutes by an athlete nearly half his age. Motwana’s winning time was 46:48. Although this is the second running of the race – which started and ended at the Victoria Park Sports Club – it will be recognised as the first official race after last year’s event had been declared a non-event due to technical problems.

This year, the Vukani Athletic Club was assisted by Aspen AC.

Motwana picked up the winner’s purse of R1 500, with Ntshiliza pocketing R1 000. Bulelani Niwa collected the R500 third prize.

Ntombesinthu Mfunzi, who won the women’s category in 56:32, also received R1 500.

She finished six minutes ahead of Ndileka Mvakwendlu, with Christine Claasen third.

The leading results were: THERE was an excellent turnout for the parkruns in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, with more than 800 people tackling the Hobie Beach run.

Eastern Cape ambassador Tammy Ellis completed her 100th parkrun at the Sardinia Bay run on Saturday.

Ellis has been involved in the parkruns for the past three years, having started at Hobie Beach.

As the province’s parkrun ambassador, she has been responsible for setting up the fun runs in Sardinia Bay, Lady Slipper and Jeffreys Bay.

She is now setting up a course at Wells Estate, which will officially start in the new year.

“I am thrilled to join the 100 Club,” Ellis said on Saturday.

“A parkrun is a wonderful way for families and individuals to stay healthy – and to become part of a world-wide family.

“The best part is that it is free and if you are a registered member, your time is recorded each week so you can track your progress,” Ellis said.

“It is not a race and the parkruns cater for all levels of fitness.”
