PE film school to screen movies

-

AFDA Port Elizabeth film school is screening three short films at its first Graduation Festival tomorrow from 12.30pm at Nu Metro at the Boardwalk. Each film is 12 minutes long, entry is R20 for each and they are:

ý A Woman’s Choice written and directed by Loren Buchner.

This is the feminist, pro-life story of Tracy, a dedicated primary school teacher working at a conservative school, who encourages her students to value their dreams and pursue their passion despite pressure from family and her community.

Happily married with a baby on the way, her life appears to be filled with joy. However, after receiving some bad news about her unborn child’s health, she faces a life-altering choice: her passion or her family.

ý Bear written and directed by Wesley Roodt, is loosely based on the true life-story of Springbok rugby player Siya Kolisi.

After leaving his mother and childhood home in a Xhosa township, Bear, a precocious yet frightened rugby prodigy, battles to find a sense of belonging while attending a prestigious Englishlanguage boys’ school, Grey High, in the city. Many of the scenes were filmed at the school.

ý The Walk Home written by Sipho Bosa and directed by Sisanda Dyantyi, takes a look at how South Africa’s apartheid years and border war affected two farm boys. Troubled MK veteran Mbulelo returns home to present the remains of his once best friend, Wikus, to his family.

It is a harrowing tale of friendships put to the test against the unforgiving backdrop of political inequality and war.
