Watch out for the sheriff in PE today

- Punters’ Pal

THE Summer Cup meeting tomorrow in Johannesburg will be one of the biggest race days of the year, but today the focus will be on the local sheriff.

Gogetthesheriff is the darling of the Port Elizabeth racing crowd and the favourite to win the November Stakes on the Fairview Polytrack.

The seven-year-old gelding is known as a difficult customer at the starting stalls and often gets away slowly.

This behaviour makes it difficult for punters to include him as a confident banker in all bets, but he looks in fine form.

Gogetthesheriff won his last start in impressive fashion and it would be lovely to see that breathtaking acceleration down the short Polytrack straight again.

It is a small field and jockey Karl Zechner probably wouldn’t have to worry about traffic problems when he presses the button.

There are some good sorts ready to pounce if things do go wrong for the sheriff.

Miracle Bureau looks the main danger but good showings are also expected from Our Icon and Kingvoldt.

In some of the races there are strong favourites, like Klawerkate (race 1), Wish To Land (race 2), Perfect Tale (race 5) and Coastal Spell (race 6), to build bets around.

We tipped you the Pick Six last week and are tempted to go with the sheriff as a banker to help us along this time.

For those looking for those massive pools, Turffontein will be the place tomorrow when the R2-million Summer Cup will be the main attraction.

The Pick Six pool is expected to reach R6-million and it is not an easy card to get involved in.

In the second last leg of the Pick Six, the mare Nother Russia looks the closest to a banker on the day.

It is a real feast for punters with the Place Accumulator pool likely to reach R1.6-million and two jackpots and two bipots to get involved in.

Those who like place bets must remember that in the Summer Cup the first six places will qualify for payouts.

The Summer Cup looks wide open and with the Quartet pool aiming for R2.2-million, this is another bet not to miss out on.
