Tornado, PE Stars to vie for top spot

IT will be a battle for the number one spot as East London soccer team Tornado lock horns with PE Stars in the next round of the ABC Motsepe League this weekend.

A win by the PE outfit could catapult them straight into the number one position despite their goalless draw with EC Bees last week. That result saw them move up one position on the log with 17 points from eight games.

Tornado are two points clear of the Gelvandale side and sparks are bound to fly as both sides want to finish on top of the log.

The two sides had an intense battle in their previous encounter last season, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The situation is heating up heading into the Christmas break as teams strive to finish this phase of the season in a favourable position.

Matta Milan stunned Lion City over the weekend with their hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The Milan side registered their first win in eight games this season and will be hoping to maintain this momentum when they take on Future Tigers at the Ngumbela Stadium.

With Future Tigers trying to break into the top three of the log, Milan should expect a tough match.

Highbury, who play Sibanye, are ninth on the log, while Try Again will be out to redeem themselves tomorrow after their fourth loss in a row last weekend. They are 12th on the log.

Not much movement is taking place at the bottom as FC Buffalo, two points from seven games, are still candidates for relegation.

The fixtures are: Mthatha City v EC Bees (Mthatha Stadium), Swartkops Valley United Brothers v City Lads (NU2 Stadium Motherwell), Sibanye FC v Highbury (Gelvandale), Bizana Pondo Chiefs v Lion City (Mount Ayliff), Matta Milan v Future Tigers (Ngumbela Stadium), Tornado v PE Stars North (North End Stadium), Try Again v Butterworth FC (Bhisho Stadium).
