Thousands head to Durban for matric rage

- Taschica Pillay

THOUSANDS of teens from around the country will be heading to Durban for the annual matric rage party which starts on Saturday.

Parents have forked out thousands of rands for their children to let their hair down at the week-long festival with packages priced from R800 to R4 500 for a black VVIP ticket.

The sold-out black passport‚ which was limited to 750‚ gives guests the ultimate‚ exclusive VVIP rage festival experience with private lounges with bars and welcome drinks.

Artists set to perform include Brynny‚ Township Rebellion‚ Vini Vici‚ Cat Dealers‚ Stephan Bodzin‚ Black Coffee‚ DJ Speedsta and Nasty C.

Festival director William Mcintyre said they were expecting about 17 500 people over the week.

“Within the festival a host of events will take place in the day, with pool and roof-top parties at different hotels and at night at four different clubs,” he said.

Mcintyre said the sound factory‚ which is the party hub, holds 10 000 festival-goers at the Kings Park Stadium‚ and will host four events.

“We added an additional stage at the sound factory and this year the festival has gone cashless,” he said.

“From previous years’ experience where patrons were overcharged, we are running cashless shuttles.”

Mcintyre said they had also increased security.

“Parents are allowing us to look after their kids for a week so we work closely with security companies and the police,” he said.

A recent study found that about R160-million is injected into the Durban economy during the festival. – TimesLIVE
