Cricket clubs pad up for big opportunit­y

QUALIFICAT­ION for the national T20 Multiply Community Cup tournament in Pretoria next month will be up for grabs when the leading Eastern Cape cricket clubs clash this weekend.

Eastern Province’s premier league champion will be decided tomorrow and they will then take on Border’s winners at the NMU campus on Sunday to decide which team will represent the Warriors franchise at the national T20 tournament from December 8 to 10.

There are two EP semifinals taking place tomorrow and both will start at 10am at the NMU campus fields.

In the one semi, SA Home Loans Union take on BLG Logistics Gelvandale, while the other game features Jendamark United and Mechatroni­c Uitenhage.

The winners of those playoffs will face each other in the EP final at 2pm, also tomorrow.

On Sunday, the EP winners will get their chance to play off against Border for the coveted trip to the T20 club championsh­ip.

Because of the T20 playoffs, the 50-over fixtures are limited.

Mecer NMU2 have a double-header and face Schaudervi­lle tomorrow and Seaman’s Renault Old Grey at Freeplay Park tomorrow.

There is another 50-over game scheduled between Uitenhage and Despatch, but that will only take place if Uitenhage do not make Sunday’s T20 franchise final.

The fixtures are: T20 Mayoral Cup Tomorrow Semifinals, both 10am: BLG Logistics Gelvandale v SA Home Loans Union (Madibaz Oval); Jendamark United v Mechatroni­c Uitenhage (Madibaz C) Final, 2pm: Winner 1 v Winner 2 (Madibaz Oval) Sunday Warriors franchise regional final, 10am: EP winner v Border winner (Madibaz Oval) 50 over competitio­n (10am start) Tomorrow: NMU2 v Schaudervi­lle Sunday Uitenhage v Despatch (only if Uitenhage do not qualify for the franchise final), Seaman’s Renault Old Grey v NMU2
