Counterfei­t clothing worth more than R45m seized

COUNTERFEI­T clothing worth more than R45-million was seized in central Johannesbu­rg yesterday when police raided an abandoned building.

The raid at the premises – allegedly used by foreign nationals as the production plant – was conducted by the police and officials from the SA Revenue Service.

Shoes‚ T-shirts and jackets, with imagery resembling different popular brand names, were seized.

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said 20 foreign nationals had been arrested and would be charged with dealing in counterfei­t goods.

“We also took several machines [allegedly] used to produce fake brands,” Makhubele said.
