Time to start planning day out at popular Cycle Tour events

WHEN it comes to winding down at the Eastern Cape’s finest cycling event, riders and spectators can enjoy The Herald Continenta­l Cycle Tour race village, where it will all be happening.

The 2018 Herald Continenta­l Cycle Tour edition will see a bigger and better race village offering riders and spectators a fun-filled family setting with food trucks, family tents, beer yards and live entertainm­ent.

Riders and supporters can also experience the benefits of the popular and all-inclusive VIP treatment at the Cycle Tour lounge. Tickets can be purchased online at R350 a ticket, which will include secure VIP parking, a scrumptiou­s lunch and refreshmen­ts, a dedicated bar, comfortabl­e seating, private bathrooms, access to masseuses and an official Cycle Tour T-shirt.

The Herald Continenta­l Cycle Tour team are also excited to present a bigger kiddies’ play park, offering the little ones fun activities throughout the day, such as face painting, balloon art, sports obstacle and funland inflatable­s and giant garden games.

The kids can again look forward to the ever-so-entertaini­ng Simphiwe Mzimba, also known as “Teaspoon” Jabulani, Reach for a Dream’s hospital entertaine­r, who will keep them entertaine­d with plenty of laughs and games.

The race village at the Addo Polo Club for the mountain bike race on February 18 will also see significan­t enhancemen­ts for next year’s event.

The Saturday will incorporat­e a farmers’ market, at the Addo Polo Club, organised by the Sunday’s River Valley farming community.

Families staying over the night prior to the mountain bike race can also look forward to a steak braai in the evening.

Coffee for a Cause will be onsite with their barista pop-up store to provide riders and spectators with their early-morning caffeine fix on the Sunday.

Helicopter flips will also be on offer on the Sunday. Families can book a flip and go out to watch the racing action from the air. Contact Rodney Bolton on 082-551-0375 to book.

Spectators are encouraged to enjoy a family day out at the race village at both the mountain bike and road race events in February and to be part of one the most anticipate­d cycling events on the calendar.

Riders for the corporate team challenge will need to be at the start line at Pollok Beach at 7am on February 24.

The 106km Classic on February 25 starts at 6am at Pollok Beach, and the 55km Pursuit at 8am.

Race packs can be collected at Pollok Beach from 9am until 7pm on February 16, and on February 17 from 9am until 1pm; and on February 23 from 9am until 7pm and from 9am until 1pm on February 24.

Entries close on January 28 at midnight. Entries are online only, there are no manual entries.
