Last Ocean Se­ries round

HO­BIE Beach will be a buzz of ac­tiv­ity on Sun­day as the fi­nal round of the aQuellé Ocean Rac­ing Se­ries for the year takes place from 9am.

About 500 par­tic­i­pants are ex­pected and they can com­pete in one of the seven events on of­fer – 5km beach run/walk, kids’ 1km beach run, 400m, 1km, 2km or 3km ocean swim.

There will be two prize-giv­ing cer­e­monies, at 10am for the chil­dren and at 10.30am.

Be­sides a R2 000 shop­ping voucher from Greenacres Shop­ping Cen­tre, BluS­mooth is of­fer­ing one of its in­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed wet­suits as a lucky draw this week­end.

The Ocean Rac­ing Se­ries is in its 13th sea­son in Nelson Man­dela Bay and Sun­day will be the fifth of a sched­uled 11 rounds.

At this stage, Natalie Hage­dorn-Hansen and Hein­rich Vorster lead the 3km ocean swim stand­ings, and An­tonella Sa­porta and Kee­gan Cooke the 2km swim.

Han­nah Couni­han and Cole Craig are on top in the 1km and 12-yearolds Ami­nah Lin­door and Con­nor Craig lead the 400m swim.

On the beach, Sarah Gib­son and Grob­bie Grob­ler lead the 5km beach walk, with 13year-old Lea de Vil­liers and Vuy­isa Mthimkhulu, 16, on top in the 5km run.

The lead­ers in the kids’ 1km beach run are Imani Al­lah and Kait­lyn Richter (6 and un­der), Cal­lum Lof­tus and Roxy Gelden­huys (7-8), Tristan Marais and Hunter Dut­ton (9-10), and Ibanathi Bhuqa and Am­ber Jou­bert (11-12).
