Ackermanns probed after altercation at nightclub
GLOUCESTER head coach Johan Ackermann and his son, Ruan, are being investigated over a nightclub incident that left a man with facial wounds.
The altercation occurred in Cheltenham, southwest England in the early hours of Sunday, following Gloucester’s 69-12 win over Zebre in the European Challenge Cup.
Former South Africa player Johan, 47, and Ruan, 21, a back-row forward, joined Gloucester prior to the current campaign.
“Gloucestershire Constabulary is investigating a report of an incident which happened at the 21 Club in Regent Street, Cheltenham,” police said yesterday.
“The allegation is that there was an altercation between two groups of men, during which one of the men sustained facial injuries.
“The incident was reported just before 1.30am. Police officers arrived shortly afterwards, but all those involved had left the scene.
“Investigating officers will be examining CCTV footage this week and speaking to witnesses.”
Photos of the victim’s injuries were posted on social media by his sister.
Gloucester, who are second in the English Premiership, are also investigating the alleged incident.
“We’re aware of the allegations and we’re looking into them,” the club said.
“We can’t make any further comment.”
