Ackermanns probed after altercatio­n at nightclub

GLOUCESTER head coach Johan Ackermann and his son, Ruan, are being investigat­ed over a nightclub incident that left a man with facial wounds.

The altercatio­n occurred in Cheltenham, southwest England in the early hours of Sunday, following Gloucester’s 69-12 win over Zebre in the European Challenge Cup.

Former South Africa player Johan, 47, and Ruan, 21, a back-row forward, joined Gloucester prior to the current campaign.

“Gloucester­shire Constabula­ry is investigat­ing a report of an incident which happened at the 21 Club in Regent Street, Cheltenham,” police said yesterday.

“The allegation is that there was an altercatio­n between two groups of men, during which one of the men sustained facial injuries.

“The incident was reported just before 1.30am. Police officers arrived shortly afterwards, but all those involved had left the scene.

“Investigat­ing officers will be examining CCTV footage this week and speaking to witnesses.”

Photos of the victim’s injuries were posted on social media by his sister.

Gloucester, who are second in the English Premiershi­p, are also investigat­ing the alleged incident.

“We’re aware of the allegation­s and we’re looking into them,” the club said.

“We can’t make any further comment.”
