When will JZ learn to take medicine?

Zuma appeals again!

WHEN will Jacob Zuma learn to take his medicine and shut up?

Appealing the latest ruling by the high court that Thuli Madonsela’s State Capture report recommendations were binding on the president, lawful and in line with the constitution is another delaying tactic which puts the country on a “wait and see” basis for a few more months.

Even the ANC top brass told JZ to get on with implementing the recommendations and now the elective conference delegates have voted for JZ to appoint the judicial inquiry!

Former deputy chief justice honoured

The NMU could not have chosen a more deserving and high profile individual than former deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke to be honoured with an honorary law degree.

It is an honour for all of us in Port Elizabeth to be associated with this gentle giant of a man.

His compassion, use of words, his empathy, his wisdom, and his ability to get victims and perpetrators to see both sides of the story make him special.

NMU, you have chosen well!

Proteas assistant coach

As Warriors cricket coach Malibongwe Maketa bows out to become the assistant coach of the Proteas, we should applaud him for his untiring efforts to get the best results out of the talent left in the Warriors squad after other franchises and provinces have lured away some of our best!

Money will always talk, but to get to the T20 Ram Slam semifinal stage was a good effort and to be beaten by the Titans (AB de Villiers, Aiden Markram and all the other Proteas) is no disgrace!

Good luck in your new position.

Tourist potential

The article by new NMB Business Chamber chief executive Nomkhita Mona (“Collaboration needed to unlock tourism potential”, December 15) touched on a crucial aspect of our city: its tourism potential and recently its diminishing slice of the tourism income (last year only R12-billion), achieving only 3% growth over the previous year whereas nationally the tourism income growth was nearly 8%.

Tourism is almost the only way to grow the local economy without impacting negatively on the local residents, but why are the tourism attractions not better marketed, coordinated and made known to our visitors?

I was asked the other day, “Where can I go to be shown around PE? Is there no tour bus?”

Why are the tourist attractions closed at weekends and on public holidays? Why is there no “What’s on and where” brochure containing all the local activities and attractions, access to them, costs and times of opening?

What happened to the harbour boat trips? Could we not have an open-top tour bus?

Could the MBDA act as the coordinating marketing agency?
