Koko back at Eskom in new role after ‘sham’ hearings
FORMER Eskom acting chief executive Matshela Koko will be back at work on Monday in the role of head of generation‚ Eskom spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said.
The news that Koko had been reinstated was sent in an internal memo by acting chief executive Sean Maritz to senior Eskom staff on Tuesday.
Acting head of group capital Prish Govender‚ who was implicated in paying R500-million to Guptalinked company Trillian‚ has also been reinstated.
Koko faced six charges in his disciplinary hearing‚ including being influential in awarding contracts worth R1-billion to company Impulse, where his stepdaughter is a shareholder.
The DA’s Natasha Mazzone slammed the fact that the announcement was done quietly in an internal memo.
“Had the memo not been leaked‚ South Africa would not have known Koko had been reinstated.
“They were hoping the announcement would go under the radar,” she said.
“South Africans are the first people that should have known Koko had been reinstated.”
Phasiwe said the Eskom board announced yesterday that Koko had been reinstated after he was cleared in internal disciplinary hearings.
Mazzone said given the chaos and sham of Koko’s disciplinary hearings‚ it was disappointing the process was not started afresh. – TimesLIVE, additional reporting by Kyle Cowan and Neo Goba
